   Community Service

Members work to make our community a better place

to live.  In the past year our club has supported the

   following local projects:

  • EAA volunteer service and housing
  • Participated in Shared Harvest, a program to obtain farmers' donations of Farm Market excess produce and get it to local food pantries.
  • Created and implemented an innovative scholarship program in which 4 scholarships for $1,000 to be used at technical colleges, renewable depending on performance, to graduates from NEWStart program for at risk high school students.
  • Funded a new teaching kitchen for Oshkosh Area Community Pantry, to teach pantry clients how to prepare nutritious meals using fresh produce and other food pantry ingredients.
  • Conducted an essay contest for students at South Park Middle School, our Partners in Learning school, on the applicability of the Rotary Four-Way Test of ethical behavior to their anti-bulling program, with a top prize of $100.
  • Funded "Camp Invention", a weeklong summer day camp that draws Oshkosh elementary school students into math and science through fun, creative, hands-on projects.
  • Also supported: Newspapers for Education; the Oshkosh Area United Way annual campaign and campaign kickoff event; Community Back to School Fair; Winnebago County Day Care Report Center emergency assistance fund for new parolees; Oshkosh Area Community Pantry; Friends of the Senior Center; and the Fire Prevention and Awareness School Program of the City of Oshkosh Fire Department.
